I'm in the middle of Aristotle's orbit — after finishing Aristotle himself, I'm working through his surrounding figures: the philosophers, pupils, and contemporaries who shaped and were shaped by him.

On my list after that: a series on famous enslaved people in ancient Greece — figures whose lives and personalities are harder to recover but no less worth examining.

Coming Up

• —Alexander the Great — one of the most typed figures in history. I want to take my time and do it properly.
• —Catherine the Great — a request from a friend, and one I've been looking forward to. She's a fascinating case.

The Project
